David Shrigley's illustrations, paintings, and animations are well known for showcasing his darkly humorous and subversive, scribble-like cartoon aesthetic. David delights in satirizing everyday human interactions.
David Shrigley was born in September 1968 in Macclesfield, Cheshire, moving to Leicestershire when he was two years old. After studying Art and Design at Leicester Polytechnic in 1987, then later environmental art at Glasgow School of Art, David spent time working as a Gallery Guide before becoming a Full-time Artist when his figurative pieces became popular. Today David lives in Brighton, where he has a studio.
David’s works have been showcased in New York, London, Paris, Copenhagen, and LA, and many of his pieces sit in collections such as the Tate, the Arts Council Collection, and the Museum of Modern Art. He has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from De Montfort University, as well as being nominated for a Turner Prize.
